Comments from [personal profile] were_duck and [personal profile] sassbandit:

The first song kicks the mix off so perfectly--so many of the lyrics resonate so much against language in the fic and the struggles Gerard has against CorpHealth pill-popping culture, and the rebellion against scary corporate control and escape kick off right away with the next three songs. The Sleater-Kinney one in particular resonated so much, holy crap.

The next part of the mix has some great character-centric songs. "Alphabet Pony" is such a great song to dedicate to Show Pony in particular, with its grungy vocals with attitude and kitschy lyrics. "Across the Desert" has that kind of 80's pop hope and optimism, it's so perfect for Gerard's early desert epiphany. "Gambling with God" is kind of world-weary, jaded and badass, perfect for the Skeleton Crew.

The plot picks up again with "Matchbook Romance", which is such a great song for Frank/Gerard in this fic it's unreal. "Let's Start A Band" is pretty self-explanatory, and the singer's uncertainty in this song fit really well with the Killjoy's trajectory in the second half of the fic. The transition from this song to "Neon Valley Street" and the tenuous hope of getting a song out in a dystopian city really works.

"Weed Killer" is bitter and awesome for the Jimmy and LynZ storyline, and "We Are One" is the noisy, upbeat pulling-together of the end of the fic. The whole mix is awesome, maggiebloome got all kinds of pieces of the plot and character and found lyrically and musically interesting songs to fit it all together, many of which we'd never heard before, which is frosting on the cake! Thank you so much!

Hee, I'm glad you liked it! I originally snagged Weedkiller for Gerard/Korse but it totally works for Jimmy as well. I love making mixes for stories like this, it makes me think of the songs in a new way through their association with these characters. Thanks for writing such a great fic :)

grabbing. this looks so amazing! also i'm a sucker for bob dylan covers.
